Ellsworth Music Supply & Repair

The National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians sums up the job of a Repair Technician in this way:

"A repair tech is a problem-solver, mechanic, acoustician, plumber, musician, body worker, innovator, painter, jeweler, tool and die maker, electroplater, counselor, buffer, chemist, designer, carpenter, and machine tool operator all in one."

Our world class Woodwind Repair Technician, Karen Buss is all of those things and more to us here at Ellsworth Music Supply & Repair.

Karen started working in her fathers store when she was 12 years old. She was one of 7 siblings to work with her Dad. "You always had to start in the retail side before you could step foot in the repair shop." After a year or so her father saw something special in Karen and brought her back to work with him in the repair shop. She worked side by side with him for 35 years. During this time she focused on woodwind repairs, taking on anything her father gave her to do full-time. She also had a number of part-time jobs including decorating cakes, babysitting and cleaning the local church.

In 1998 Karen’s father retired. Looking for something to do she started decorating cakes full-time. In 2004 Karen moved to Inwood WV. After wanting to talk to Brian Ellsworth about a job for over a year, she “found the courage” to walk into his store in Charles Town and approached him for a job. Brian said, “What took you so long!!!”

Karen has said, she will close her eyes and the smells and sounds remind her of working with her father. "It makes me feel close to him again."

Ellsworth Music would not be Ellsworth Music without Karen. She has been an integral part of the business.

And a quote to leave you with from Karen:
"When all else fails, use a bigger hammer!"
