Jason Crawford is the band director and assistant orchestra director at Faith Christian Academy in Martinsburg and is also the Minister of Music at a local church. Jason earned the Bachelor of Arts in Music Education at Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, West Virginia and furthered his education with a Master of Music in Composition at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. Throughout his long career, Jason has at various points been a full-time pastor, a public school educator, a private school educator, and even an adjunct collegiate instructor of music theory and composition. Jason is a gifted music educator, composer/arranger, conductor, performer, clinician/adjudicator, and worship leader. Jason excels as a vocalist/choralist and also as a performer on many different instruments in many styles. His musical collaborations include The Larry Parsons Chorale, the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Chamber Symphony; local jazz giants Curtis Johnson, Scotty Hood, and Dusty Rhodes; and even southern gospel greats The Hoppers. Jason has performed in the National Cathedral, the Greenbrier Resort, the WV Capitol Building, Tamarack, and even Germany’s Neuschwanstein Castle as well as in churches and concert halls throughout the US and Europe. Jason’s compositions and arrangements have been performed on large and small stages in several different countries, and he is a member of the American Society of Composers, Arrangers, and Publishers (ASCAP). Jason is a proud member of the West Virginia Music Educators Association (WVMEA) and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).
Jason Crawford has experience guiding students of all ages to individual success on a wide variety of instruments and styles; his students have won national and even international awards, and many of his former private lesson students have carried on the tradition of excellence by becoming dynamic private lesson instructors as well. Although he can teach beginners of almost any instrument, here at Ellsworth he specializes in teaching beginning-to-advanced students in the following instruments: piano (especially advanced classical), drumset (especially jazz drumset), percussion (including contemporary snare/tenors, classical marimba, and jazz vibraphone), classical/jazz string bass, popular/jazz bass guitar, tuba/euphonium/trombone, and accordion. Jason is also available for students who want individual attention in the areas of music theory and music composition.
