Yvonne Stewart holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and Music Education from Lambuth University as well as a Master of Music in Piano Performance from Austin Peay State University. Previous teachers include pianists, Anne Glass and Dr. Don Huneycutt, and clarinetists, Dr. Derek Jones and Dr. Stephen Clark. As a clarinetist, Yvonne has served as the principal musician for multiple ensembles. As a private teacher, Yvonne has over 19 years teaching experience.
In addition to her students at Ellsworth Music, she is an instrumental music teacher in the DC Public School System where she currently teaches band, guitar, ukulele, and general music classes. Her ensembles receive consistent high ratings at the annual DCPS Music Festival. Yvonne’s passion for the Arts has lead to her serving in various roles within her schools including Arts & Enrichment Department Chair and Arts Integration Coordinator. She is a consistently highly effective rated teacher who has served as a District Course Chair in Music for DCPS as well as been awarded an Arts Curriculum Enrichment fellowship for Leaders in Music Education. In 2016, Yvonne was nominated for the DCPS Teacher of the Year. Although she dedicates the majority of her time to music education, Yvonne still enjoys performing frequently as well as playing recorder and ukulele in her spare time.
